Puranic Legends:
At one time, the seven sages known as the Saptarishis performed penance near Suchindram, in a place now called Āśramam. They were granted a vision of the deity in the form of Shiva. However, desiring to see the Lord in the form of Mahāvishṇu, they moved to a location four miles away called Sōmatīrtham to continue their penance.

Simple Translation
Alas! those who pass in and out of Vaṇparicāram, where my Lord resides bearing Tiru (Lakṣmī) on His winsome chest, do not tell Him. Here is a vassal ready to get close to Him and roam behind, carrying His lovely discus and conch, keeping one end close.
Explanatory Notes
The Āzhvār, seated inside of the hollow of the sacred tamarind tree in Tirunakari, pines for the service of the Lord in nearby Tiruvaṇparicāram.
