கண்ணனைக் காணோம்; என் உயிர் காக்குமாறு என்?

புலம்புறுமணிதென்றலாம்பலாலோ! *
பகலடுமாலைவண்சாந்தமாலோ!
பஞ்சமம்முல்லைதண்வாடையாலோ! *
அகலிடம்படைத்திடந்துண்டுமிழ்ந்தளந்து
எங்குமளிக்கின்றவாயன்மாயோன் *
இகலிடத்தசுரர்கள்கூற்றம்வாரான்

Simple Translation

Alas! Where can I live in seclusion? The tinkling of cattle bells, the sound of the bugle, and the southerly breeze oppress me. The evening that marks the end of the day, the sweet sandalwood scent, the cooing of birds, the fragrance of jasmine, and the cool breeze all squeeze the life out of me. How can I preserve my life when the wondrous cowherd, the great Benefactor who created, consumed, and restored the worlds, and who was deadly to the Asuras on the battlefield, does not turn towards me?

Explanatory Notes

Well, all those things that regaled the Nāyakī when in the company of her Lord, now oppress her. The Lord, who extends protection to His subjects, in ever so many ways, having withdrawn Himself from Parāṅkuśa Nāyakī, she hardly knows how she can at all hold her life.
