Thiruvāymozhi, a collection of divya prabandam hymns that contains the essence of Sama Veda was sung by Namm Āzhvār, who is also known as 'Prapanna Jana Koodasthar' (Head of the Souls who have surrendered). These prabandams in the Tamil language effectively conveyed the eternal truths that Vedas and specifically the Upanishad part conveyed, namely,

“பிரபந்ந ஜன கூடஸ்தர்” என்று புகழ்பெற்ற நம்மாழ்வார் அருளிய திருவாய் மொழி என்னும் பிரபந்தம் ஸாம வேத ஸாரமாகும். வேதங்களும் உபநிஷத்துக்களும் காட்டித்தரும் பரம்பொருள், ஜீவாத்மாக்களுக்கும் பரமாத்மாவிற்கும் உள்ள ஒழிக்க முடியாத ஸம்பந்தம், பிறவி கடலைக் கடந்து ஜீவாத்மாக்கள் பரமாத்மாவை அடையும்
