Nitya Anuṣṭhānam — The Discipline of Daily Observance
Nitya Anuṣṭhānam (Sanskrit: nitya = daily/eternal + anuṣṭhāna = performance/observance; 'daily performance') refers to the complete set of obligatory daily practices that a Śrī Vaiṣṇava must perform to keep the body, mind, and soul in sacred alignment.
Core Components:
- Sandhyā Vandanam — dawn, noon, and dusk prayers and meditation
- Thiruvārādhanam — formal worship of the home deity (mūlavar)
- Pañca Kāla Parāyaṇa — the five-fold daily Vaidika discipline
- Divya Prabandham Anusandhanam — daily recitation of the Āḷvārs' sacred hymns
- Guruparamparā Anusandhanam — meditation on the Āchārya lineage
Significance: Nitya anuṣṭhānam is not merely ritual — it is the framework through which a Śrī Vaiṣṇava keeps the body consecrated as the Lord's temple, the mind focused on Bhagavān, and the day structured around sacred time. 'Every moment of the day, the Śrī Vaiṣṇava lives in Bhagavān's presence' — nitya anuṣṭhānam makes this a lived reality rather than an aspiration.
