The Teacher's Role
Kālakṣepam sādhikkiṟār ('conducting/accomplishing the kālakṣepam') designates the Ācārya who leads the discourse. This is distinguished from kālakṣepam pannukirār (attending/participating in a kālakṣepam — the disciple's role).
What the Teacher Does
The Ācārya who conducts a kālakṣepam brings the full living tradition to bear on each word of the text. They cite prior Ācāryas' interpretations, share relevant anecdotes from the tradition, respond to questions from disciples, and ensure that doctrinal precision and devotional warmth are maintained throughout. The exposition is not a lecture from prepared notes but a living transmission from a heart saturated in the tradition.
The Reciprocal Grace
The tradition holds that conducting a kālakṣepam is as meritorious for the teacher as attending it is for the disciple — the Ācārya's engagement with the sacred text deepens their own realization, and the presence of attentive disciples creates a devotional field that nourishes all participants.
