Detailed Explanation

Thiruppuḷiṅgudi (Tamil: திருப்புளிங்குடி) is one of the 108 Divya Desams and one of the Nava Tiruppatis situated along the Tāmraparṇī in present-day Thoothukudi district. The reclining mūlavar is Kaisinavēndan, also known as Bhūmipālar; the Tāyārs are Malarmagaḷ Nācciyār and Puḷiṅguḍivalli.

The Divya Desam is celebrated by Nammāzhvār, especially in Tiruvāimoḻi 9.2. The former names Tamiraiyal Kelvan and Komalavalli, and the attribution to Tirumaṅgai Āzhvār, belong to other temple traditions and should not be applied here.

Pilgrims visiting this Divya Desam participate in the classical tradition of maṅgalāśāsanam — offering protective blessings to the Lord through the recitation of the Āzhvārs' pāsurams — continuing the devotional practice preserved by the Śrī Vaiṣṇava Āchārya-paramparā.
