Bridging Sanskrit and Tamil
Tātparya-ratnāvalī ('Garland of the Jewels of Meaning') is Vedānta Deśika's Sanskrit verse work summarizing the doctrinal essence of Nammāzhvār's Tiruvāimoḻi. Its one hundred principal verses correspond to the one hundred decads and present the governing tātparya of each decad.
Purpose
The work serves as a doctrinal index to the Tiruvāymozhi, helping readers identify the theological teaching (siddhānta) embedded in each set of ten verses. It sits within the long tradition of Tiruvāymozhi commentary that begins with Nāthamunigaḷ's recovery of the text and Nammāzhvār's disciple Madurakavi Āzhvār's preservation of the teaching.
Significance in the Vaḍakalai Stream
For the Vaḍakalai tradition, the Tātparya-ratnāvalī demonstrates that the Tamil Prabandham fully supports Viśiṣṭādvaita doctrine — that Nammāzhvār's experiences and teachings are perfectly aligned with the Sanskrit scriptural tradition. This is Deśika's contribution to the Ubhaya Vedānta project.
