sulabha

சுலபம்

Also known as: sulabha, easily attainable, accessible, saulabhyam

Meaning

Easily accessible or approachable; a quality of Bhagavān that describes his readiness to be reached by all devotees regardless of their station.

Detailed Explanation

Sulabha — Easily Accessible

Sulabha (Sanskrit: su — easily; labha — attainment) describes Bhagavān's quality of being easily reached or attained, especially through the path of prapatti (surrender). Unlike bhakti-yoga which requires extended personal effort, prapatti is called sulabha upāya — the easily attainable means.

Sulabha is closely related to saulabhyam (the quality of accessibility) and arcāvatāra — through which Bhagavān makes himself available in the local deity form for all to behold, touch, and serve without restriction of place or time.

The contrast with parathvam (supreme transcendence) reveals a paradox celebrated in Śrī Vaiṣṇava theology: the one who is utterly beyond all is also the most easily accessible of all. Nammāzhvār's Thiruvāimozhi is pervaded by wonder at this sulabhata — that the Supreme took the form of Kṛṣṇa, played among cowherd children, and then descended into his divine compositions.

In Yathīndra Pravaṇa Prabhāvam, the Āchāryas — especially Māmunigaḷ — are described as sulabha: approachable by all disciples regardless of their learning or background.
