The Great Synthesis
Rahasyatrayasāra ('Essence of the Three Secrets') is Vedānta Deśika's magnum opus in maṇipravāḷa prose, covering the full theology of the rahasyatrayam: Tirumantram, Dvaya, and Carama Śloka. It is the Vaḍakalai tradition's most complete systematic theology — spanning ontology, epistemology, soteriology, ethics, and devotional practice.
Structure
The work is organized into 32 chapters (adhikārams), beginning with cosmological foundations and moving through: the nature of Bhagavān, Śrī, and the jīvas; the relationship between upāya and upēya; the doctrine of prapatti in full; the behavior of the prapanna; obstacles and their removal; and the nature of liberation. Deśika addresses both Vaḍakalai-Teṅkalai internal debates and external philosophical opponents.
Canonical Status
In the Vaḍakalai tradition, the Rahasyatrayasāra is studied as the capstone text — read after mastering the prior rahasyam literature. It synthesizes the entire Śrī Vaiṣṇava system and is considered Deśika's own definitive articulation of the tradition's teaching.
