Thiruvenkatam 2 - (தாயே தந்தை)
The āzhvār directed his heart to Thiruvengadamudaiyan and took it to the hill to worship Him. However, Srinivasa did not welcome the āzhvār as expected or engage him in service. The āzhvār felt sorrowful! He lamented, "I have grown up committing sins, and I have come to you in repentance. You are the protector of all, and Piratti (the goddess) is with you in compassion. Please forgive my mistakes and accept me," says the āzhvār.

  • Verse 1:
1028. O Lord of fragrant Thiruvēṅkaṭam, surrounded by groves of blooming flowers and thickets of tall, whispering bamboo. I gave importance to mother, father, wife, kin, and children—but when sorrow struck, all left me behind. Now, with a heart longing only to see You, I, lower than a dog, have come and surrendered. O Merciful One, accept me as Yours and make me Your servant forever.
  • Verse 2:
1029. O Lord of Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where bees hum through flower-filled groves. You are my only refuge! Drawn by the deer-like eyes of women, I strayed and sinned, falling into many hells of this wide world. Yet now, I have come to You. I, Your lowly servant, stand surrendered at Your feet. O Lord, take me as Yours and graciously make me Your own.
  • Verse 3:
1030. O Lord of cool Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where thundering clouds rest on lofty hills. I lacked all knowledge of the soul’s true aim and, in that ignorance, harmed many living beings. To those who begged, not once did I offer a kind word. But the day I realized my ruin, I came and fell at Your feet. I am Your fallen servant, please accept me, and make me Yours.
  • Verse 4:
1031.O Lord of Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where great clouds drift across the earth’s vast paths. I have been born and died in every kind of clan, worn down through countless lives. I hold no virtue, have done no act of dharma. I have only suffered. Now I’ve come to You. This lowly servant. Please accept me, and make me Yours.
  • Verse 5:
1032. O my Lord, the mighty One. You have a firm resolve, shining like radiant copper! You dwell in Thiruvēṅkaṭam, a sacred hill surrounded by towering peaks. I have committed countless sins and grown weary from their burden. I lack the strength to follow Your feet or sing Your praise with true devotion. Yet still, I have come to You. Please accept me, this lowly servant, and make me Yours.
  • Verse 6:
1033. O Lord of fragrant Thiruvēṅkaṭam, the sacred hills that rise high and pierce the sky with its towering peaks. I am caught in this body made of earth, water, fire, wind, and the wide sky that contains moving clouds. Afflicted by pain and weakened by longing, I have come and surrendered at Your feet. O merciful Master, take me in—this servant who has no refuge but You.
  • Verse 7:
1034. O mighty lion of Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where firm mountains stand, encircled by flower-filled groves and roaming elephants! As a child, in ignorance, I committed many sins. When I grew older, I toiled for others and became poor. Now, weary and worn, I have come and surrendered at Your feet. O Lord who dwells on the sacred hill, take me in—this servant who has no one else.
  • Verse 8:
1035. O Lord of cool Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where fragrant groves surround You and honey flows and floods from wooden poles. Through many births, I pursued other paths, performing bhakti and other means, hoping to earn a glimpse of You. Now, longing to see You in this very birth, I am gripped by fear and sorrow. Unable to bear this endless cycle, I have come and surrendered. Take me in—this servant who seeks no refuge but You.
  • Verse 9:
1036. O Māyan! Our Mādhava, beloved of Śrī! O Lord of Thiruvēṅkaṭam, where lotus-filled springs gush forth with the honey hidden in mountain caves! I have no merit, no foothold in good deeds. I have done only sin and become a sinner. I know no other path, no other way. Still, I have come, seeking only to serve You. Take me in—this helpless servant who clings to none but You.
  • Verse 10:
1037. He is the eye and the breath of all seven worlds, our Lord of rain-cloud hue, who gives joy to His devotees. Revealed in the Vedas, known to the wise, even the nitya-sūrīs sing His praise. He who dwells in Thiruvēṅkaṭam, surrounded by fragrant groves. These ten verses are set in graceful tune by Kaliyan, the chief of Thirumangai. Those who recite and cherish them, no trace of sin shall ever remain.
