அரங்கனை எண்ணி அயர்க்கின்றாள் என் மகள்

2063 நெஞ்சுருகிக்கண்பனிப்பநிற்கும்சோரும்
நெடிதுயிர்க்கும்உண்டறியாள்உறக்கம்பேணாள் *
நஞ்சரவில்துயிலமர்ந்தநம்பீ! என்றும்
வம்பார்பூம்வயலாலிமைந்தா! என்றும் *
அஞ்சிறையபுட்கொடியேஆடும்பாடும்
அணியரங்கமாடுதுமோ? தோழீ! என்றும் *
எஞ்சிறகின்கீழடங்காப்பெண்ணைப்பெற்றேன்
இருநிலத்துஓர்பழிபடைத்தேன் ஏ! பாவமே.

Simple Translation

2063. “My daughter’s heart melts with love for him and her eyes are filled with tears. She stands searching until she is tired. She sighs and doesn’t want to eat or sleep. She says, ‘O Nambi, who rest on the snake bed, you are lord of Thiruvayalāli (Thiruvāli) surrounded with beautiful creepers blooming with flowers. O friend! Shall we go there dance and sing where the Garudā flag flies? Can we go and play in the water in beautiful Srirangam?’ I gave birth to this girl but she doesn’t listen to me. A pity! The world is blaming me for what she does. ”

kaṇpanippa niṛkum — ṣhe stands with tears overflowing; nenju — with mind; urugi — melting like water;; sŏrum — she faints;; nedidhu uyirkkum — she sighs;; uṇdu aṛiyāl̤ — she does not know about eating;; uṛakkam pĕṇāl̤ — she does not like to sleep;; nanju aravil thuyil amarndha nambee ennum — she says ‘ŏh nambee! who is doing yŏga nidhrā lying down on thiru ananthāzhvār who spits poison’;; vambu ār pū vayal āli maindhā ennum — she says – ŏh the youthful one who is present in thiruvāli that is surrounded by fields having flowers full of fragrance;; am siṛaiya pul̤ kodiyĕ ādum — she is dancing like garudan who is having beautiful wings (beautiful because it serves to transport emperumān) who is like the flag;; pādum — and sings;; thŏzhee aṇi arangam ādudhumŏ ennum — ŏh friend! Would (we) get to bathe and dance in thiruvarangam?, says she.; peṇṇaip peṝĕn — ī who have got such a girl child; en siṛagin keezh adangā — who does not stay under my control; ŏr pazhi padaiththĕn — have earned unparalleled sin; iru nilaththu — in this huge land;; ĕ pāvamĕ! — ŏh how sad!
