தோழீ! நாம் ஏன் கண்ணனைக் கண்டு அஞ்சினோம்?

2072 மைவண்ணநறுங்குஞ்சிக்குழல்பின்தாழ
மகரம்சேர்குழையிருபாடுஇலங்கியாட *
எய்வண்ணவெஞ்சிலையேதுணையா இங்கே
இருவராய்வந்தார்என்முன்னேநின்றார்
கைவண்ணம்தாமரைவாய்கமலம்போலும்
கண்ணிணையும்அரவிந்தம் அடியும்அஃதே *
அவ்வண்ணத்தவர்நிலைமைகண்டும்தோழீ!
அவரைநாம்தேவரென்றுஅஞ்சினோமே. (2)

2072 ## mai vaṇṇa naṟuṅ kuñcik kuzhal piṉ tāzha *
makaram cer kuzhai irupāṭu ilaṅki āṭa *
ĕy vaṇṇa vĕm cilaiye tuṇaiyā * iṅke
iruvarāy vantār ĕṉ muṉṉe niṉṟār **
kai vaṇṇam tāmarai vāy kamalam polum *
kaṇ-iṇaiyum aravintam aṭiyum aḵte *
av vaṇṇattu avar nilaimai kaṇṭum tozhī ! *

Simple Translation

2072. The daughter says to her friend, “O friend, the dark-colored lord with fragrant hair hunts with a strong bow. He wore shining emerald earrings swinging from both his ears. He came together with Lakshmi and stood in front of me and I was fascinated with his beautiful lotus hands, mouth, eyes and feet. O friend, I was afraid he might be divine. ”

mai vaṇṇam naṛu kunchi kuzhal pin thāzha — Black in colour, having much fragrance, flailing in the air on ḥis back is the divine hair each of which is curled separately,; magaram sĕr kuzhai — ear rings; ilangi āda — shaking bright; iru pādu — on both sides,; ey veṇṇam vem silaiyĕ thuṇai aa — having as the companions the bow having fiery nature of shooting (a rain of arrows),; iruvar āy vandhār — ḥe and il̤aiya perumāl̤ who does not separate from ḥim, came; en munnĕ ninṛār — and stood in front of me; ingĕ — in this thirumaṇankollai;; kai — divine hands; thāmarai vaṇṇam — are beautiful like red lotus flower;; vāy — mouth too; kamalam pŏlum — matches the lotus;; kaṇ iṇaiyum — the two divine eyes too; aravindham — are that lotus only;; adiyum — divine feet also; ahdhĕ — are that lotus only;; kaṇdum — even after having seen; nilamai — the state of; avvaṇṇaththavar — ḥim who is having such beauty,; thŏzhee — ŏh dear friend!; avarai — ābout ḥim; nām — ī; dhĕvar enṛu anjinŏmĕ — was afraid because of thinking that ḥe is the supreme lord.
