891 பாயுநீரரங்கந்தன்னுள் பாம்பணைப்பள்ளிகொண்ட *
மாயனார்திருநன்மார்பும் மரகதவுருவும்தோளும் *
தூய தாமரைக்கண்களும் துவரிதழ்பவளவாயும் *

891. The illusionist who rests on a snake bed in Srirangam where the water of the Kaveri flows over its banks, has a beautiful divine chest, strong arms, pure lotus eyes, lovely coral lips and shining hair and his body has the color of an emerald. How could his devotees forget his beautiful form?

Pāyu nīr Araṅgam – Unlike a region that is elevated, necessitating the construction of a dam and compelling the water to ascend, Thiruvarangam (Srīraṅgam) is situated at a lower level, thereby allowing water to flow naturally. Water here serves as a metaphor representing all substances that purify and are clear. This temple is the repository for such substances.
