616 செம்மையுடைய திருவரங்கர்தாம்பணித்த *
மெய்ம்மைப்பெருவார்த்தை விட்டுசித்தர்கேட்டிருப்பர் *
தம்மையுகப்பாரைத் தாமுகப்பரென்னும்சொல் *
தம்மிடையேபொய்யானால் சாதிப்பாராரினியே? (2)

Simple Translation

616. Vishnuchithan would have listened to the divine words of the impeccable God of Srirangam. 'The lord says, ‘I love those who love me, ’ Can this go wrong? If so will people revere Him?

செம்மை — செம்மைக் குணம்; உடைய — தீர்மையாக உள்ள; திருவரங்கர் — திருவரங்கர்; தாம் — தம் வாயாலே; பணித்த — அருளிச்செய்த; மெய்ம்மை — சத்தியமானதும்; பெரு — பெருமை மிக்கதுமான; வார்த்தை — சரம சுலோகத்தை; விட்டுசித்தர் — பெரியாழ்வார்; கேட்டு — குருமுகமாகக் கேட்டபடி; இருப்பர் — இருப்பார்; தம்மை — தம்மை; உகப்பாரை — விரும்பினவர்களை; தாம் உகப்பர் — தாமும் விரும்புவர்’; என்னும் சொல் — என்ற கூற்று; தம்மிடையே — தம்மிடத்திலேயே; பொய்யானால் — பொய்யாகிவிட்டால்; இனியே — இனி மேல்; சாதிப்பார் ஆர்? — எவர் மதிப்பர்?

tiruvaraṅkar — the Lord of Sri Rangam; uṭaiya — who has firm; cĕmmai — virtuous qualities; paṇitta — made; mĕymmai — a promise; tām — with His own mouth; pĕru — that is filled with greatness; vārttai — its the sacred Charama Shloka; viṭṭucittar — Periazhwar; keṭṭu — heard it through the mouth of the guru; iruppar — and remain devoted; ukappārai — those who love; tammai — Him; tām ukappar — He will also love them; ĕṉṉum cŏl — this statement; pŏyyāṉāl — if it becomes a lie; tammiṭaiye — within Himself; iṉiye — hereafter; cātippār ār? — who will respect Him?

Detailed WBW explanation

Thiruvaranganāthan, adorned with the divine attribute of honesty, had previously bestowed upon us the profoundly truthful and invaluable words known as the Charama Ślokam (the Ultimate Hymn). My divine father, upon hearing these sacred utterances, would have been liberated from all concerns. Should the adage "He will favor those who favor Him" ever prove untrue, who then possesses the authority to command Him?
