இருள் மிகுதி கண்ட தலைவி தோழிக்கு கூறல்

2526 பண்டும்பலபல வீங்கிருள்காண்டும் * இப்பாயிருள்போல்
கண்டுமறிவதும் கேட்பதும்யாமிலம் * காளவண்ண
வண்டுண்துழாய்ப்பெருமான்மதுசூதனன்தாமோதரன்
உண்டுமுமிழ்ந்துங்கடாய * மண்ணேரன்ன வொண்ணுதலே!

Simple Translation

2526. She says, “O friend with a shining forehead, the dark-colored lord who wears thulasi garlands that swarm with bees is Madhusudhanan, he is Damodharan. I have not seen, heard or known a darkness like the color of his body that eclipses even the darkness of the night. But it is not only his dark body— this darkness of the night also makes me suffer. ”

காள வண்ண — கருத்த நிறத்தையுடைய; வண்டு உண் — வண்டுகள் தேனைப் பருகும்; துழாய் — துளசி மாலையையுடைய; பெருமான் — பெருமான்; மதுசூதனன் — மதுஸூதனன்; தாமோதரன் — தாமோதரன் ஆகிய பெயர்களயுடையவன்; உண்டும் — பிரளய காலத்தில் உண்டும் பின்; உமிழ்ந்தும் — ஸ்ருஷ்டியில் வெளிப்படுத்தியும்; கடாய — காப்பாற்றிய; மண் நேர் அன்ன — பூமியின் அழகை; ஒண் நுதலே! — ஒத்த நெற்றியையுடையவளே!; பண்டும் பலபல — முன்பும் அநேகவிதமான; வீங்கு இருள் — பரந்த இருளை; காண்டும் — கண்டிருக்கிறோம்; இப் பாய் இருள் போல் — இந்த இருள் போல்; கண்டும் அறிவதும் — பார்த்ததும் இல்லை; கேட்பதும் யாம் இலம் — கேட்டதும் இல்லை
