I am Contemplating Circumambulating Tiruvāṟaṉviḷai.

திருவாறன்விளையை வலம் வரவே சிந்திக்கிறேன்

3560 தீவினையுள்ளத்தின்சார்வல்லவாகித் தெளிவிசும் பேறலுற்றால் *
நாவினுள்ளும்உள்ளத்துள்ளும் அமைந்ததொழிலினுள்ளும் நவின்று *
யாவரும்வந்துவணங்கும்பொழில் திருவாறன்விளையதனை *
மேவிவலஞ்செய்துகைதொழக்கூடுங்கொல்? என்னும் என்சிந்தனையே.

Simple Translation

3560. With a mind purified, free from all sins, I might attain the spiritual realm. Yet, my heart yearns for Tiruvāṟaṉviḷai, where the devout gather with strict adherence to righteous conduct in speech, action, and thought. I long to linger in that sacred abode, to encircle it in reverence and worship with hands joined in devotion.

Explanatory Notes

The Āzhvār’s desire to reach this pilgrim centre is so great that even the high spiritual world recedes to the background. Therefore, his thoughts are wholly centred on whether he would at all be able to reach that centre, stay firmly there and go round the place with great piety. Not only that, he feels that this holy centre is so very enchanting that is is bound to attract even the denizens of spiritual world.
