"Tavattul̤ār tammilallēn" – The Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 6.4.22 proclaims, "Tametam vedānuvacanena brāhmaṇā vividhīṣanti | yajñena dānena tapasā'nāśakena ||" which translates to, "The knowers of Brahman desire to understand the Supreme Soul through the recitation of the Vedas, through rituals, charity, and penance performed without any desire for personal gain."
