வீணாகப் பிறவி கொடுத்தாய்!

902 தவத்துளார்தம்மிலல்லேன் தனம்படத்தாரிலல்லேன் *
உவர்த்த நீர்போல என்றன்உற்றவர்க்கொன்றுமல்லேன் *
துவர்த்தசெவ்வாயினார்க்கே துவக்கறத்துரிசனானேன் *
அவத்தமே பிறவிதந்தாய் அரங்கமாநகருளானே!

Simple Translation

902. O lord of Srirangam, I have not done austerities like the sages, I am not wealthy, and I am as useless as salty water, for my friends and relatives. I fell for women whose mouths are like coral and became like dust when I didn’t have money. You gave me this birth that has been wasted.

Detailed WBW explanation

"Tavattul̤ār tammilallēn" – The Bṛhadāraṇyaka Upaniṣad 6.4.22 proclaims, "Tametam vedānuvacanena brāhmaṇā vividhīṣanti | yajñena dānena tapasā'nāśakena ||" which translates to, "The knowers of Brahman desire to understand the Supreme Soul through the recitation of the Vedas, through rituals, charity, and penance performed without any desire for personal gain."
