2787 தென்னிலங்கையாட்டி அரக்கர்குலப்பாவை *
மன்னனிராவணன்தன் நல்தங்கை * - வாளெயிற்றுத்
துன்னுசுடுசினத்துச் சூர்ப்பணகா சோர்வெய்தி *
பொன்னிறங்கொண்டு புலர்ந்தெழுந்தகாமத்தால் *
தன்னைநயந்தாளைத் தான்முனிந்து மூக்கரிந்து *
மன்னியதிண்ணெனவும்

Simple Translation

2788. "When Surpankaha, the princess of Lankā, Rāvana's sister, fell in love with Rāma, took the form of a beautiful woman and came to the forest and told Rāma that she loved him, Rāma was angry and cut off her nose. (77)

தென் இலங்கையாட்டி — தென்னிலங்கைக்கு அரசியும்; அரக்கர் குலப் பாவை — அரக்கர் குலப் பாவையும்; மன்னன் இராவணன் — ராவணனின் அன்புக்குரிய; தன் நல் தங்கை — தங்கையானவளும்; வாள் எயிற்று — வாள் போன்ற பற்களையுடையளும்; துன்னு — எப்போதும்; சுடு சினத்து — மிக்க கோபமுடையவளுமான; சூர்ப்பணகா — சூர்ப்பணகை; புலர்ந்து எழுந்த — மிகுந்த; காமத்தால் — காம நோயால்; பொன் நிறம் கொண்டு — நிறம் வெளுத்து; சோர்வு எய்தி — பரவசப்பட்டு உடல் துவண்ட; தன்னை — தன்னை இராமனை விரும்பிய; நயந்தாளை — அந்த அரக்கியை; தான் முனிந்து — அவன் சீற்றத்துடன்; மூக்கு அரிந்து — மூக்கை அறுத்ததை; மன்னிய — பெரிய வீரமெனெ; திண்ணெனவும் — நினைத்துக் கொண்டிருப்பது என்னே!

then ilangaiyātti — the queen of lankā in the south; arakkar kulapopāvai — one who looked like an idol, born in the clan of demons; mannan irāvaṇan than nal thangai — the affectionate sister of ḵing rāvaṇa; vāl̤ eyiṛu — having teeth like a sword (being resplendent); thunnu sudu sinaththu — having an anger which will singe; sūrppaṇakā — called as sūrppaṇakā; pularndhu — her body withered [lifeless]; ezhundha kāmaththāl — due to the disease of lust which swelled; pon niram koṇdu — her complexion became pale [lost its colour]; sŏrvu eydhi — going into a trance; thannai nayandhāl̤ai — that demonic woman who desired him; thān munindhu — becoming fiery; mūkku arindhu — cutting off her nose; manniya thiṇṇenavum — how firm he became!
