திருவரங்கம் பெரிய கொயிலின் மகிமை சாந்தீபினியின் மகனைக் கொடுத்தவனூர் அரங்கம்

402 மாதவத்தோன்புத்திரன்போய் மறிகடல்வாய்மாண்டானை *
ஓதுவித்ததக்கணையா உருவுருவேகொடுத்தானூர் *
தோதவத்தித்தூய்மறையோர் துறைபடியத்துளும்பிஎங்கும் *
போதில்வைத்ததேன்சொரியும் புனலரங்கமென்பதுவே. (2)

otuvitta takkaṇaiyā * uruvuruve kŏṭuttāṉ ūr **

Simple Translation

402. Srirangam is the abode of lord Kannan, who brought back his teacher's (guru Santeepani) son, as an offering for learning, in the same form, when the waves pulled him in. This is a place where the pure Vedic scholars who wear clean clothes bathe, where water flows and honey drips from the flowers that blossom

தோதம் — தோய்த்த; வத்தித் தூய் — சுத்தமான ஆடை அணியும்; மறையோர் — வேதமறிந்தோர்; துறைபடிய — காவேரித் துறைகளில் நீராட; துளும்பி எங்கும் — எங்கும் நீர் தளும்பி; போதில் வைத்த — நீரில் பூக்களிலிருந்து; தேன் சொரியும் — தேன் பெருகப்பெற்ற; புனல் — நீருடைய; அரங்கம் — திருவரங்கம்; என்பதுவே — என்னும் நகரம்; மறிகடல்வாய் — அலைவீசும் கடலில் புகுந்து; மாண்டானை — மாண்டு போனவனை; மா தவத்தோன் — மகா தபஸ்வியான; புத்திரன் போய் — ஸாந்தீபிநியினுடைய பிள்ளையை; ஓதுவித்த — தன்னை ஓதிவித்ததற்குக்; தக்கணையா — காணிக்கையாக; உருவுருவே — அந்த புத்திரனை அதே உருவத்துடனேயே; கொடுத்தான் ஊர் — கொடுத்த எம்பெருமானின் ஊர்

puṉal — the water surrounded; ĕṉpatuve — city called; araṅkam — Sri Rangam; maṟaiyor — is where those who are knowledgeable in the Vedas; vattit tūy — wearing clean clothes; totam — that were washed; tuṟaipaṭiya — bathe in the waters of the Kaveri banks; tul̤umpi ĕṅkum — where water overflowing everywhere; potil vaitta — and from the flowers in the water; teṉ cŏriyum — honey oozes out; kŏṭuttāṉ ūr — its the city of the Lord who brought back; puttiraṉ poy — the child of Santhipini; mā tavattoṉ — a great ascetic; uruvuruve — in the same form; maṟikaṭalvāy — who entering the turbulent sea; māṇṭāṉai — and died; takkaṇaiyā — as an offering; otuvitta — for His teacher
