நலிவானுறக்கேடகம்கோப்பவன்போல்
நாராயணன்முன்முகம்காத்தமலை *
இலைவேய்குரம்பைத்தவமாமுனிவர்
இருந்தார்நடுவேசென்றுஅணார்சொறிய *
கொலைவாய்ச்சினவேங்கைகள்நின்றுறங்கும்
கோவர்த்தனமென்னும்கொற்றக்குடையே.

Simple Translation

271. When rain clouds gathered and poured heavily, frightening all, Kannan carried this mountain(Govardhanā), to save the cowherds, like a warrior using his shield to protect from the rain of arrows in the battlefield. In Govardhanā (Madhura), pious rishis practice tapas living in huts roofed with leaves, while angry murderous tigers go and sleep with them.

சல மா முகில் — ஈரம் கொண்ட மா பெரும் மேகங்களின்; பல் கணப் போர்க்களத்து — பல திரள்கள்; சரமாரி பொழிந்து — சரமழையாகப் பொழிந்து; எங்கும் பூசல் இட்டு — ஆயர்பாடியில் கர்ஜனை பண்ணி; நலிவான் உற — பயமூட்டிய சமயம்; கேடகம் கோப்பவன் போல் — குடைபிடிப்பவன் போல்; நாராயணன் — எம்பிரான் மழையை; முன் முகம் — எதிர் கொண்டு; காத்த மலை — காத்திட்ட மலை; இலை வேய் — தழைகளால் அமைக்கப்பட்ட; குரம்பை — குடில்களில்; தவ மா முனிவர் — இருக்கும் தபஸ்விகள்; இருந்தார் நடுவே சென்று — கூட்டத்தின் நடுவே சென்று; அணார் சொறிய — தபஸ்விகள் தமது கழுத்தைச் சொறிய; கொலை வாய் — கொல்லும் வாயை உடைய; சின வேங்கைகள் — சின மிக்க வேங்கைகள்; நின்று உறங்கும் — நின்றபடியே உறங்கும்; கோவர்த்தனம் என்னும் — கோவர்த்தனம் என்கிற; கொற்றக் குடையே — வெற்றிக் குடையே!
