பகவானை நினைந்து பிறவித்துயர் அகற்றுங்கள்

Simple Translation

820. If you see some gods, they have terrible forms and their praise is not sweet to the ears. Even if you praise them they do not have the power to give the boons you ask for. O ignorant ones! You live thinking they are your refuge. If you want to survive, there is only one refuge for you, our Thirumāl. If you wish to release yourself from births, worship our ancient Thirumāl. .

காணிலும் — கண்ணுக்குத் தெரியும்; உருப் பொலார் — உடல் ஊனங்களையும்; செவிக்கு இனாத — காதுக்கு கசக்கும்; கீர்த்தியார் — இகழ்ச்சியையும் உடைய; மிடுக்கு இலாத — சக்தியில்லாத இப்படிப்பட்ட; தேவரை — தேவதைகளை; பேணிலும் வரந்தர — வரம் தர ஆச்ரயித்து; ஆணம் என்று — சரணம் என்று; அடைந்து — அடைந்து வாழ நினைக்கும்; ஆதர்காள்! — அறிவில்லாதவர்களே; எம் ஆதிபால் — முழுமுதற்கடவுளான எம்பெருமானுக்கு; பேணி நும் — பணிவிடை செய்து உங்களுடைய; பிறப்பு எனும் — பிறப்பு என்னும்; பிணக்கு — பெரும் புதரை; அறுக்ககிற்றிரே — அறுத்தொழிக்க முடியவில்லையா?

Avatārikai (Introduction)

A profound query arises in light of the previous pāśuram’s definitive declaration: ‘ettiṟattilum uyvadōr upāyamillai’ (There is no means of salvation whatsoever). How can such a statement be asserted with such finality? Surely, it is argued, one can attain the ultimate liberation of mōkṣam by seeking refuge in other celestial beings.
