ஆரார்புகுதுவார்? ஐயரிவரல்லால் *
நீராமிதுசெய்தீர் என்றோர்நெடுங்கயிற்றால் *
ஊரார்களெல்லாரும் காணவுரலோடே *
தீராவெகுளியளாய்ச் சிக்கெனவார்த்தடிப்ப *

2687. “‘She hit herself on her stomach and said, “Who could have done this except this naughty one?” She asked Kannan, “Did you do this?” She got very angry, shouted at him, took a long rope, tied him to the mortar and spanked him as the villagers looked on. He didn’t stop her. 15

vayiṛu adiththu — beating herself on her stomach (wondering if eating this amount of butter would lead to indigestion for kaṇṇa); aiyar ivar allāl̤ — other than this great person; ingu pugudhuvar ār ār — who else can enter this place?; idhu seydhīr nīrām enṛu — saying ‘only you have done this’; thīrā vegul̤iyal̤āy — with uncontrolled anger; ŏr nedu kayiṝāl — with a short rope that her hands could reach out to; ūrārgal̤ellām kāṇa — (such simplicity) to be seen by all the people in the village; uralŏdĕ — to a [grinding] mortar; chikkena ārththu adippa — to tie down firmly and beat; ārā vayiṝinŏdu āṝādhān — one who stood with sorrow and his stomach hurting
