மாதர் மடலூரலாம் என்று வடமொழி கூறுகிறதே!

அன்னநடையாரலரேச ஆடவர்மேல் *
மன்னுமடலூரா ரென்பதோர்வாசகமும் *
தென்னுரையில் கேட்டறிவதுண்டு * - அதனையாம் தெளியோம்
மன்னும் வடநெறியே வேண்டினோம் * -

Simple Translation

2732. Doe-eyed women who walk like swans will not write letters when they love men even if others gossip about them. I have heard this and know it from the southern tradition, but I don’t want to worry about that. I have only described what the northern tradition says. (21)"

மான் நோக்கின் — மான் போன்ற நோக்கையும்; அன்ன — அன்னம் போன்ற; நடையார் — நடையையும் உடைய மாதர்கள்; அலர் ஏச — உலகத்தார் பழிக்கும் படி; ஆடவர் மேல் — ஆண்களை நோக்கி; மன்னும் மடல் ஊரார் — ‘மடலூரக் கூடாது’; என்பது — என்று சொல்லுகிற; ஓர் வாசகமும் — ஒரு வாக்கியத்தை; தென் உறையில் — தென் நாட்டு நெறி என்று தமிழர் மரபு; கேட்டுஅறிவது உண்டு — அறிந்திருக்கிறோம்; அதனை யாம் — அதனை நாம்; தெளியோம் — ஏற்கமாட்டோம்; மன்னும் வட — வட மொழி நூல்களில்; நெறியே — சொல்லப்பட்டிருக்கும் நெறியையே; வேண்டினோம் — பின் பற்றுவோம்

mān nŏkkin annam nadaiyār — women who have eyes like a doe and gait like a swan; alar ĕsa — to be abused (by worldly people); ādavar mĕl — on the male (towards men); mannum madal ūrār enbadhu ŏr vāsagamum — a saying “one should not engage in madal to sustain (one’s life)”; then uraiyil kĕttu aṛivadhu uṇdu — we have heard of in thamizh language; nām adhanai thel̤iyŏm — we do not consider that as having any clarity (it is not apt); mannum vadaneṛiyĕ vĕṇdinŏm — (in this matter of engaging in madal) we will follow the method prescribed in great samskrutha literature
