தசாவதாரம் எடுத்தவனே என்னை மயக்கியவன்

2766 மன்னிவ்வகலிடத்தை மாமுதுநீர்தான்விழுங்க *
பின்னுமோரேனமாய்ப் புக்குவளைமருப்பில் *
கொன்னவிலுங்கூர்நுதிமேல் வைத்தெடுத்தகூத்தனை *

2766 maṉṉu iv akal iṭattai mā mutu nīr tāṉ vizhuṅka *

Simple Translation

2766. “When the earth goddess was hidden in the bottom of the ocean by an Asuran, our god, the dancer, took the form of a boar, went into the ocean and brought up the earth goddess on his sharp murderous tusks. (56)

மன்னு இவ் அகல் — எல்லாரும் இருக்கும் விசாலமான; இடத்தை — இப்பூமியை; மா முது நீர் விழுங்க — மஹா ஸமுத்திரம் விழுங்கிவிட; தான் பின்னும் — தான் அதற்குப் பிறகு; ஓர் ஏனமாய் புக்கு — ஓர் வராஹமாய் பிரவேசித்து; வளை மருப்பில் — அந்த பூமியை வளைந்த பல்லின்; கொல் நவிலும் — கூர்மையான; கூர் நுதி மேல் — நுனியின் மீது; வைத்து எடுத்த — வைத்து எடுத்து வந்து; கூத்தனை — காப்பாற்றிய கண்ணனை

mannu i agal idaththai — this expansive earth where everyone is fitting well; mā mudhu nīr thāṇ vizhunga — when māhapral̤ayam (deluge) swallowed; pinnum — after that; ŏr ĕnamāy pukku — entered (the ocean) as a divine boar; val̤ai maruppin — of the curved tusks; kol navilum kūr nudhi mĕl — on top of the sharp edges which are capable of killing enemies; vaiththu eduththa kūththanai — one who did a great activity, carrying (that earth)
