விடையின் மணிக்குரல் கேட்டு நான் ஏங்குகிறேன்

2762 மாலைவாய்த் தன்னுடையநாவொழியாது ஆடுந்தனிமணியின் *
இன்னிசையோசையும் வந்தென்செவிதனக்கே *
கொன்நவிலுமெஃகின் கொடிதாய்நெடிதாகும் *
என்னிதனைக்காக்குமா? சொல்லீர் *

மாலைவாய் — மாலை நேரத்தில்; இன் இசை — இனிதான இசையின்; ஓசையும் வந்து — ஒலியும் வந்து; தன்னுடைய நா — தன் நாக்கு; ஒழியாது ஆடும் — ஓயாமல் ஆடிக்கொண்டிருக்க; தனி மணியின் — சிறந்த மணியினுடைய ஓசை; என் செவி தனக்கே — என் காதுகளுக்கு மட்டும்; கொல் நவிலும் — கொடூரமான கூரிய; எஃகில் — ஈட்டியைக் காட்டிலும்; கொடிது ஆய் — கடுமையாக; நெடிது ஆகும் — துன்புறுத்துகிறது; இதனை — இதிலிருந்து; காக்கும் ஆ என்? — தப்பிக்க என்ன வழி?; சொல்லீர் — ஏதாவது உபாயம் இருந்தால் கூறுங்கள்
