388 நம்பிபிம்பியென்று நாட்டுமானிடப்பேரிட்டால் *
நம்பும்பிம்புமெல்லாம் நாலுநாளில்அழுங்கிப்போம் *
செம்பெருந்தாமரைக்கண்ணன் பேரிட்டழைத்தக்கால் *
நம்பிகாள். நாரணன் தம்அன்னைநரகம்புகாள்.

388 nampi pimpi ĕṉṟu * nāṭṭu māṉiṭap per iṭṭāl *
nampum pimpum ĕllām * nālu nāl̤il azhuṅkip pom **
cĕmpĕrun tāmaraik kaṇṇaṉ * per iṭṭu azhaittakkāl *

Simple Translation

388. If you give your children the names of village people such as “Nambi, pimbi, ” those “manbu, pimbu” will be forgotten in a few days. If you give them the name of the lovely lotus-eyed lord, O friends, Nāranan will not send the mothers of your children to hell.

நம்பி பிம்பி என்று — நம்பி என்றும் பிம்பி என்றும்; நாடு மானிடப்பேர் — நாட்டு மனுஷ்யர்களுடைய பெயரை; இட்டால் — (உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு நீங்கள்) இட்டால்; நம்பும் பிம்பும் எல்லாம் — ‘நம்பி’ ‘பிம்பி’ என்னும் பெயர்களுக்கு அடியான முதன்மையெல்லாம்; நாலு நாளில் — சில தினங்களில்; அழுங்கிப் போம் — நசித்துப் போகும்; செம்பெரும் — சிவந்தும் அகன்றுமிருக்கிற; தாமரை — தாமரைமலர்; கண்ணன் — கண்களையுடையவன்; பேரிட்டு அழைத்தக்கால் — பெயரிட்டு அழைத்தால்; நம்பிகாள்! — பெரியோர்களே!; நாரணன்தம் — நாராயணன் பெயரைக் கொண்ட; அன்னை — பிள்ளையின் தாய்மார்கள்; நரகம் புகாள் — நரகத்தை அடைய மாட்டார்கள்
