தாடகையை அழித்த தாசரதி

308 என்வில்வலிகண்டு போவென்றுஎதிர்வந்தான்
தன் * வில்லினோடும் தவத்தைஎதிர்வாங்கி *
முன்வில்வலித்து முதுபெண்ணுயிருண்டான் *
தன் வில்லின்வன்மையைப்பாடிப்பற தாசரதிதன்மையைப்பாடிப்பற.

308 ĕṉ vil vali kaṇṭu * po ĕṉṟu ĕtirvantāṉ
taṉ * villiṉoṭum * tavattai ĕtirvāṅki **
muṉ vil valittu * mutupĕṇ uyiruṇṭāṉ

Simple Translation

308. When ParasuRāman challenged Lord Rāma saying "See the power of my bow and leave!", Rāma broke his bow and penance. Prior to this He bent his bow and took the life of Thadagai. O, undi, fly and sing the might of His bow! Sing and praise the strength of the son of Dasharatha, fly and sing the power of his bow.

என் வில் வலி — என்னுடைய வில்லின் வலிமையை; கண்டு போ என்று — பார்த்துவிட்டுப் போ என்று; எதிர் வந்தான் தன் — எதிர்த்து வந்த பரசுராமனுடைய; வில்லினோடும் — வில்லையும்; தவத்தை — தவ பலத்தையும்; எதிர் வாங்கி — அவன் கண்முன்னே அழித்து; முன் — அதற்கு முற்காலத்திலேயே; வில் வலித்து — வில்லை வளைத்து; முதுபெண் தன் — தாடகி என்னும் ராக்ஷசியின்; உயிருண்டான் — உயிரை முடித்த ராமனின்; வில்லின் — வில்லினுடைய; வன்மையைப் — பெருமையை; பாடிப் பற! — பாடுங்கள் பாராட்டுங்கள்!; தாசரதி — தசரத புத்திரன் ராமபிரானின்; தன்மையை — பெருமையைப்; பாடிப் பற! — பாடுங்கள் பாராட்டுங்கள்!

ĕtir vantāṉ taṉ — when Parasurama told Rama to; ĕṉ vil vali — see the power of His bow; kaṇṭu po ĕṉṟu — and leave; ĕtir vāṅki — in front of his eyes, Rama; villiṉoṭum — destroyed His bow; tavattai — and the penance; muṉ — prior to this; uyiruṇṭāṉ — Rama; vil valittu — bent His bow; mutupĕṇ taṉ — and took the life of Thadagai; pāṭip paṟa! — sing and praise; vaṉmaiyaip — the greatness of; villiṉ — Rama's bow; pāṭip paṟa! — sing and praise !; taṉmaiyai — the greatness of; tācarati — the son of Dasharatha
