The Slumber of Kaṇṇaṉ

கண்ணனின் துயில்

59 தண்டொடுசக்கரம் சார்ங்கமேந்தும்தடக்கையன் *
கண்துயில்கொள்ளக்கருதிக் கொட்டாவிகொள்கின்றான் *
உண்டமுலைப்பாலறாகண்டாய் உறங்காவிடில் *
விண்தனில்மன்னிய மாமதீ! விரைந்தோடிவா.

Simple Translation

59. He, who holds the club, the discus (chakra) and the conch in his strong hands, is about to rest and yawns. if he does not rest, the milk he has drunk will not get digested. O lovely moon, you are merely wandering in the sky. Run and come quickly to him.

சார்ங்கம் ஏந்தும் — தனுசைஏந்தி நிற்கும்; தடக்கையன் — விசாலமான கைகளையுடைய பிரான்; கண் துயில்கொள்ளக் கருதி — கண் வளர நினைத்து; கொட்டாவி கொள்கின்றான் — கொட்டாவி விடுகிறான்; உண்ட முலைப் பால் — அருந்திய பால்; உறங்காவிடில் — உறங்காவிட்டால்; அறா கண்டாய் — ஜெரிக்காது; மன்னிய — விண்ணில் பொருந்திய; மா மதீ! — பெரிய சந்திரனே; விரைந்து ஓடிவா — ஆகவே விரைந்து ஓடிவா
