யாங்கள் சிறுமியர்: எங்களை ஏன் துன்புறுத்துகிறாய்?

520 பேதம்நன்கறிவார்களோடு இவைபேசினால்பெரிதிஞ்சுவை *
யாதுமொன்றறியாதபிள்ளைகளோமை நீநலிந்தென்பயன்? *
ஓதமாகடல்வண்ணா! உன்மணவாட்டிமாரொடுசூழறும் *
சேதுபந்தம்திருத்தினாய்! எங்கள்சிற்றில்வந்துசிதையேலே.

520 petam naṉku aṟivārkal̤oṭu * ivai peciṉāl pĕritu iṉ cuvai *
yātum ŏṉṟu aṟiyāta pil̤l̤aika l̤omai * nī nalintu ĕṉ payaṉ? **
ota mā kaṭalvaṇṇā! * uṉ maṇa vāṭṭimārŏṭu cūzhaṟum *

Simple Translation

520. If you talk to people who understand what you say, that will be all right, but if you talk to us who are young and don’t know anything, it just hurts us. What do you gain from that? O! the One having the color of the wide sounding ocean the One who built the bridge Sethu! Don’t come and destroy our little sand houses.

If you engage in discourse with those who are well-versed in the nuances of your divine speech, it will indeed be a delightful experience for you. What possible gain could there be for you in vexing simple-hearted maidens such as ourselves? Oh, One whose hue mirrors the ocean's undulating waves! Oh, Architect of the bridge spanning the vast ocean! We implore you, by the sacred names of your divine consorts, refrain from approaching and laying ruin to our modest sand abodes.
