Simple Translation

2117. With a golden discus in your hand you fought with Hiranyan and split open his chest, and you asked for three feet of land from Mahābali at his sacrifice and measured the world and the sky. Didn’t you do this because you wanted to remove the strength of your enemy kings?

munnam — in earlier times itself; dharaṇi thanadhu āgaththānĕ — one who had presumed that the earth is his; iraṇiyanai — hiraṇya kashyap; puṇ nirandha — to cause hurt by breaking; val̤ ugirāl — with sharp nails; pon — being resplendent; āzhi kaiyāl — with the divine hand holding chakkaram (divine disc); nī — you; maṇ irandhu koṇda vagai — the way you begged for and obtained earth; muraṇai vali tholaidhaṛkām enṛĕ — was it not to remove the ahankāram (egotism) and mamakāram (possessiveness) [of samsāris such as ourselves]!

muraṇai vali tolaidhaṟkām enṟē – In Śrī Rāmāyaṇam Yuddha Kāṇḍam 36-11, it is stated, “dvaidhābhajyēyamapi na namēyam tu kaśyachit” (even if I am cut into two, I will not worship anyone). To transform such individuals, devoid of humility, exemplified by Rāvaṇa in the aforementioned śloka, into your devotees by eradicating their egotism, you eagerly sought them out.
