மனமே! மண்ணுண்டானையே நினை

மண்கொண்டுமண்ணுண்டு மண்ணுமிழ்ந்தமாயனென்று *

Simple Translation

2217. Mean people can achieve fame only by doing mean deeds. They know nothing. O my heart, worship our Māyan who swallowed the earth and spat it out and be calm.

சிறியார் — அற்பமான எண்ணமுடையவர்களின்; பெருமை — திமிரான மேன்மை; சிறிதின் கண் — மேன்மேலும் தாழ்விலேயே; எய்தும் — கொண்டு சேர்க்கும்; அறியாரும் — அவிவேகிகள் தங்களை சர்வஜ்ஞரென்று; தாம் — நினைத்தால் தாங்கள் மேன்மேலும்; அறியார் ஆவர் — அறியாதவர்களாகவே ஆவர்; என் நெஞ்சே! — என் மனமே!; அறியாமை — அறியாமல் செய்த இந்த செயல்களை; மண் கொண்டு — மகாபலியிடத்தில் பூமியைப் பெற்றவனும்; மண் — பிரளய காலத்தில் பூமியை; உண்டு — வயிற்றில் வைத்துக் காத்தவனும்; மண் — பிறகு அந்த பூமியை; உமிழ்ந்த — ஸ்ருஷ்ட்டித்தவனுமான; மாயன் என்று — மாயன் எம்பெருமான் என்று; எண் கொண்டு — இடைவிடாது நினைத்து; இரு — இருந்தால் பயமற்று இருப்பாய்

siṛiyār — (without any greatness in them, by nature) lowly samsāris (dwellers of this materialistic realm; perumai — greatness (coming out of ego thinking that there is none their equal ); siṛidhin kaṇ eydhum — will take them towards lowliness only (repeatedly); aṛiyārum — people who cannot discriminate between good and bad (though they think that they are omniscient); thām aṛiyār āvār — they will become more and more ignorant; en nenjĕ — ŏh my heart!; aṛiyāmai — unknown to others; maṇ koṇdu — obtaining earth (from mahābali); maṇ uṇdu — (during deluge) keeping that earth inside his divine stomach; maṇ umizhndha — (later) spitting out that earth; māyan enṛu — emperumān who is an amaśing entity; eṇ koṇdu — thinking constantly; iru — be without fear (that for us who have attained him, there is no shortcoming)
