தசாவதாரம் எடுத்தவனே என்னை மயக்கியவன்

2767 மன்னும்வடமலையை மத்தாகமாசுணத்தால் *
மின்னுமிருசுடரும் விண்ணும்பிறங்கொளியும் *
தன்னினுடனே சுழலமலைதிரித்து * ஆங்கு
இன்னமுதம் வானவரையூட்டி *
அவருடைய மன்னும்துயர்கடிந்த வள்ளலை *

2767 maṉṉum vaṭa malaiyai mattāka, mācuṇattāl *
miṉṉum iru cuṭarum viṇṇum, piṟaṅku ŏl̤iyum *

Simple Translation

2767. “Using Mandara mountain as a churning stick and the snake Vāsuki as the rope, he churned the milky ocean and the bright sun, moon and all shining things in the sky swirled around as he churned. The generous god took the sweet nectar from the ocean, gave it to the gods in the sky and removed their affliction. (57)

mannum vada malaiyai — the manthara (a celestial) mountain which was ancholred firmly; maththu āga — as a churning shaft; māsuṇaththāl — with a snake (vāsuki, encircling); minnum iru sudarum piṛangu ol̤iyum thanninudanĕ suzhala malai thiruththu — churning that manthara mountain (churning the ocean) such that the radiant moon, sun, sky and other lustrous entities spun around with him; vānavarai in amudham ūtti — offering sweet nectar to celestial entities; mannum thuyar kadindha — one who drove away their long standing fear of death; val̤l̤alai — the greatly generous entity
