tamed the five senses —

to bring under one‚Äôs control —

consumed and enjoyed —

controlling them inside the body —

(preventing them from engaging in other pursuits and) engaging with bhagavath vishayam (matters relating to emperumān) by anchoring firmly —

 placed —

controlling (instead of enjoying them) —

winning over the five senses —

instead of standing submissively, folding the end of their dress —

eating, sleeping, fearing, enjoying other pleasures are the four things they nullify —
